Here are some examples of work I did in my time at Gannett’s Design Studio. I designed cover and inside pages for multiple newspapers a day, all over the country. However, my most favorite pieces I have done included opportunity for illustration.

A cover and inside jump page for a story about a plant boutique. In this case I was gifted beautiful photography to work with, which inspired me. The headline was originally much longer, but I saw opportunity in a short pun.

Something I love about design is that you are often forced to work under strict parameters, and beautiful things can come of it! In the above cover, there was not much type or photo size wiggle room. It always feels good to get the puzzle pieces fitting just right!

While the previous cover was all about parameters, this MLK Jr. Day page was the opposite. I was given content and told to have some fun, so I shook up the normal newspaper look.
Cover and subsequent pages of Poughkeepsie, NY’s subscriber-only special section based on their state’s various foods. Design, from start to finish, all done by me.

Breaking news cover story design for the Asbury Park Press, our home paper at the Asbury Park Design Studio. Our nights in the studio sometimes consisted of finishing up a paper, then having to entirely rip up a design for news. You definitely had to be up for a challenge!
